The 5 Least Expensive Cellular Plans

June 24, 2022

Do you feel like you’re overpaying for your cell phone plan? We’re no longer living in times that only a couple of providers can pick from. With all the options of phone plans and add-ons, it can be tricky to pick the right one for your family’s needs. To save yourself from overspending, look at these five least expensive cellular plans below.

What to look for in a cellular provider

What are you looking for in a cellular provider? Free-to-go minutes? Unlimited data? The best coverage and reliability? When choosing a cell phone plan, there’s no shortage of options. Prices can vary a bit per month, depending on the features you want to include. But how do you know which one is right for your needs? We break down the five least expensive cellular plans with the most generous features so that you can find the perfect match.

Budget cell providers usually use the larger provider’s coverage, so just because you pay less doesn’t mean you’ll be sacrificing your cell phone’s coverage. If you’re on a tight budget, see if you qualify for any carrier’s discounts. For example, Cricket Wireless offers monthly discounts based on the number of lines active. In general, prepaid cell service means lower monthly fees but higher up-front costs (though some carriers have better deals than others). Whether or not it’s worth it depends on what kind of phone user you are and what type of contract length you’re interested in committing to.

When it’s all said and done, ensure you’re happy with your costs and feel like what you get in coverage and perks is worth it. There are plenty of options out there today. We’re no longer stuck to picking just from a few big carriers. With all the options available now, you’ll surely find something that meets your needs without breaking the bank.

Tello

With Tello, you can get your own SIM card, pay for minutes in advance, get unlimited texting, and even unlimited data. With the unlimited data plan, you’ll never be charged more than $29 per month, no matter how much data you use. The best part? You won’t be forced to sign a contract or pay activation fees. That makes Tello one of the least expensive cellular phone plans available!

On top of their competitive pricing, their features are worth bragging about. All plans include unlimited texting and tethering, wi-fi calling, and free calls to 60+ countries. Bite off more than you can chew? You can easily upgrade or downgrade your plan with no extra fees. Changes are instant.

Mint Mobile

Mint Mobile claims to be the smarter wireless choice. With 5g included, no overhead, flexible options, and an easy switch with an existing device, there’s no wonder why Mint Mobile made this list. That’s before we even discuss their costs.

Mint Mobile plans are between $15 and $30 monthly, depending on your data needs. The $15 monthly includes four GB of data, whereas the $30 plan is unlimited. Plans include free international calls to Mexico and Canada and a mobile hotspot. While prices may not seem low enough for those looking for something cheap, the extras that come with these plans make them worthwhile. The downside to Mint Mobile is that you can’t bring your phone. You must purchase one from them. For those looking for a cheaper option, Republic Wireless offers prepaid cellular service for around $25-$35/month, depending on if you need more or less than 1 GB of data each month.

Visible Wireless – Least Expensive Cellular Plans

This company offers inexpensive plans. $25/month gets you unlimited calling, texting, and data if you’re part of a “party plan,” a family plan. For individual plans, it’ll be $40/month for unlimited everything. Visible’s plans are paid in advance with no commitment. They offer unlimited hotspots, fees included, calling & texting to Canada & Mexico, and no annual contract. All of this while being on a network powered by Verizon.

A downside to Visible, and many other carriers, is data can slow down during times of high internet traffic. With plans, some sacrifices reduce costs. Data priority just happens to be the sacrifice made to have a plan this cheap.

US Mobile

High-Speed Coverage, No Contract, and No Hidden Fees With US Mobile, you can get dependable 5G coverage that works even if you live in a remote area. There are no hidden fees or contracts to sign, so whether you are traveling on vacation or switching plans in your home state, you’ll be able to take advantage of great service without any fine print. US Mobile boasts some of the lowest rates around!

US Mobile offers many plans from $8 to $45 a line. The $8 line is just unlimited talk and text. If you want data, it’ll be between $12 and $45 a month, depending on how much you’re looking for. A downside to US Mobile is there are taxes and fees not included with their advertised prices. But, they still have some of the cheapest options available. Just keep an eye out for those pesky extra charges when reading over the small print.

Cricket Wireless – Least Expensive Cellular Plans

Cricket Wireless is AT&T’s prepaid service. For a single device, plans will vary from $30 to $60 a month, depending on how much data you use. Each plan includes talk, text, and some amount of data. As you work your way up the options, additional features, like international calling, spam call filtering, hot-spotting, cloud storage, and HBO Max become available. There are certainly a lot of perks that justify the increased costs. If you’re looking for a family plan, that range can go down as low as $26 to $32 a month per line, making it a competitive option.
